Remember the paradox from Chapter 2? The more you grasp power, the less you hold it. Here's the deeper truth: The more power you accumulate, the more tempting it becomes to abuse it.

The very traits that help us gain power—empathy, collaboration, fairness—tend to diminish once we have it. Power literally changes our brain, reducing our ability to see others' perspectives.

This is why ethical leadership isn't automatic. It must be chosen, practiced, and protected.
